Brian Herron Ties Cooper's Freshman National Record!

In the first big moment at this year's New Balance Nationals Indoor, Brian Herron tied the freshman national record in the 400 meters. He won the Emerging Elite race in 47.97 seconds, holding off a surprising late challenge from Canada's Michael Petersen. That time equals the freshman best set earlier this season by Tyrese Cooper

This is the second time this season that Herron tied the freshman national record. He ran 48.76 in his season opener, tying what was then a 31 year-old freshman record. In February, Herron ran 47.39 at Kentucky and 47.68 at Vanderbilt, but neither of those times counted for record purposes.

He'll likely hold on to this record. Cooper is only contesting the 60 and 200 this weekend.
