Road to NBNI: Boys' Weight Throw

Who are the best RI athletes that will be competing at the New Balance Nationals Indoor (NBNI) Championships, March 11-13? Leading up to the nationals at the New Balance Armory in New York City, MileSplit RI will feature what we consider the top athletes from the Ocean State in their respective events.

Boys' Weight Throw

Emerging Elite, Friday, March 11, 6 p.m.
Championship, Sunday, March 13, 12:30 p.m.

Just two of the top 20 weight-throwers in the country will not be attending the nationals so this event will be highly competitive. But Rhode Island has the thrower that has been No. 1 all season long, Barrington senior Bobby Colantonio. Colantonio. who was the state and recent New England champion, was a runner-up to teammate  and two-time winner Adam Kelly at the 2015 meet. He has the best toss this year with his PB of 82 feet, 0.5 inches back in early January. Logan Kusky of Austintown Fitch (OH) and Isaiah Rogers of Campbell (GA) and Throw1deep, are the next two seeds with distances of 77-4.25 and 76-9, respectively. The top 10 competitors in the field have tossed further than 70 feet, including Woonsocket junior Jared Briere at 70-8.25 (US #9). Colantonio has been consistent (and undefeated) this winter and that should continue at the New Balance Armory next weekend, a venue he won at twice last month with victories at the Armory Track Invitational and Millrose Games.
