National Weekend Rundown for August 22

Frisco ISD Invitational (TX)

New Balance Nationals Outdoor 2 Mile champion and FL/NXN All-American Carter Blunt of Frisco Independence, TX opened his 2015 cross country season with a nation-leading time of 15:12 to win his home invitational.

The time seems to be a nice indicator of improvement since last fall, as he ran 15:26.8 to win the same race last year and 16:12 in 2013. The senior called the race a "rust buster" and said the course was about 3.10 miles according to his watch.

"My goal was to run the first two miles strong and once I got up this hill to calm down and just roll in," he said. "So when I came by and looked at my watch, I was pretty surprised with the time and the weather was perfect considering it was a Texas summer."

The race marks Blunt's fastest opener in his career and bodes well for the rest of the season as a favorite to contend for top honors at the national championship events.

Justin King ran 16:07.5 for runner-up honors to lead Frisco Wakeland to the team title.
On the girls' side, sophomore Carrie Fish of Liberty won in 19:36.8.
