National Weekend Rundown for August 22

Friday Night Hawk Invite (TX)

The Lewisville Hebron (TX) girls started 2015 with a one-point victory over Prosper at the Friday Night Hawk Invite. The Hawks placed eighth at 2014 NXN.

2014 NXN qualifiers Lewisville Hebron made their team debut at their home meet, but were perhaps (!) shocked by a rude awakening from Prosper High. Prosper battled the Hawks on their home 3200m course to a one-point decision, as Hebron won just 59 to 60. Anna Elkin (sub-11 talent, 90th at 2014 NXN) led her squad with an 11:31.5 runner-up finish. Sophomore Abby Riordan ran 11:56.2 for third for the Hawks, while Prosper's Allie Taylor (12:05.1) was fourth. It will be interesting to note how team scoring changes as the schools transition into a full 5k race, but looks like a promising debut from Hebron's 1-2.

Ashton Endsley won the individual 6A title in 11:00.3, well clear of the pack as the senior who ran 10:35/4:48 this spring looks like one of the leading cross runners in Texas and perhaps the nation this year.

On the boys' side, 2014 NXN qualifier and defending Texas state cross country champion David Strome of Colleyville Heritage won the individual title in 9:39. Sophomore Wes McPhail was the only other runner to break 10 minutes, clocking 9:51 for runner-up honors.
