Lewis Doesn't Wait To Win, While Watson Strikes At Right Time For 800m Titles

Five runners cracked the 1:50 mark in the 800-meter run with Cheltenham (PA) John Lewis earning the crown with a fast time of 1:48.33 (US #2), the second fastest time in meet history. Lewis outdistanced Kingwood (TX) senior Myles Marshall, who took the silver in 1:48.86 (US #3).

The Clemson-bound Lewis hit his opening 400m split at 49.41. No surprise, he also ran a state all-time best for the event.

Rush Henrietta (NY) sophomore Sammy Watson, a two-time national indoor champion and the anchor for her team’s first-place sprint medley on Saturday, captured the girls’ 800m race with a time of 2:07.02 (US #11).

Finishing second was junior Sarah Walker of Germantown Friends (PA) in 2:07.72. Wilbur Cross (CT) junior Danae Rivers was third with a time of 2:08.31.
