Get Ready To Rewrite The National Record Book After The Armory Track Invite

Boys 300m
When to Watch: Saturday 1/31/15 At 2:54Pm

State of the Action: Wow. Look at the seeded heat of this race. All four have the capability to capture that National Record. Rai Benjamin (Mount Vernon) was second on our list of those most likely to break the record, and proved his ability last week, running 33.40 at the New Balance Games. No longer in isolation, he'll have a heat full of those pushing him at every curve. Taylor McLaughlin (Union Catholic, NJ) almost caught Benjamin's early-season National Leader, but will be returning to the event they don't see in New Jersey. Anton Porter (Mount Saint Michael) was 2014's fastest individual in this event, and rounds out the stellar field from the Northeast. And watch out for Jaron Flournoy (Westland John Glenn, MI), who toppled Benjamin's 400m National Leader among a shallow field. To top it off, Izaiah Brown (Amsterdam) was given the option to be a late entry to the field after his run on Saturday, and his decision will be released with the final entries later this week.

The top field is so talented, that even the unseeded heat is expected to be littered with athletes who could take a state title in any other state in the union. We expect the National Record to be under serious threat, with only one major athlete missing in Richard Rose. But he has business below to take care of.

State of the Action: Look out Strymar Livingston, the city is on the hunt. Richard Rose (Boys and Girls) has waited 4 years to be prepared for this race, clocking sub 1:20 each of those 4 consecutive years. He will look to top off the event with a National Record that he was in the stadium to see go down his freshmen year. But it will be hardly handed over, as Reigning State Champ Luke Germanokos (Lynbrook) has broken 1:20 as well this year, and is more than capable of taking on this field. Flat-track leader Joe Luongo (St. John's Prep, MA) is fresh off a win in Boston this weekend, and Kareem Joseph (Clara Barton) ran just as fast in his first real effort at the distance for the MLK Relays. Look out National Record, there are plenty of arms looking to grab.

State of the Action: It truly is difficult to choose which of the boys individual events is the most stacked. The 1000m is sure to be one to make that claim, as US #1-3, US #5, #8, #11, and more are all entered in the field. James Burke (Port Jefferson) said he felt extremely slow after running his National Leader at the Stanner Games. He'll return with James Asselmeyer (Arlington), who took second in that race, and will know better to wait for this one. Sam Ritz (Germantown Friends, PA) returns to the distance that established him early in the season. It will only be his second time running the event ever, and who knows what kind of time he is ready for. And what of Jeremy Spiezio (Greenwich) who is the National Leader in the mile, as well as someone who opened up his DMR at Yale near sub-3. Conor Lundy (Fordham Prep) tackled Speizio at the Invite 3000m at Yale, and will come back faster than his seed would indicate. Mikey Brannigan (Northport) is your national leader in the 2-Mile, while Luke Gavigan (Tappan Zee) is the nation's fastest returner over a mile. Add in Virginia sensation Andrew Hunter (Loudoun Valley, VA), who went undefeated through Foot Locker in XC, and PJ Garmon (Billerica, MA) who is US #6 at the event, and you have an incredible field. Yes, the National Record is in danger, but just by who is indecipherable at this point.
