Battle of Atlanta - cancelled 2020

Hampton, GA

Meet Information

Status of the Battle of Atlanta Cross Country Invitational

We hope this finds you well. The Battle of Atlanta Cross Country meet is one of the largest in the state of Georgia. Each year the meet attracts 3000+ runners and about 5000 spectators. Due to the size of the event we are required to gain a special permit to host. There is a multi-step process involving several county agencies in securing this permit. The various county authorities have always been accommodating in helping us with the process. They love that Nash is used for cross country meets and would like this to continue. This year is no different. However after discussions with the county and other involved groups,  we are cancelling this year's Battle of Atlanta. There are mandates in place that the county authorities must enforce but have no control over. Currently the county is not approving any events beyond 50 people. This will not change until mid-July but there is no guarantee that the limit will be lifted at that time.  We cannot even begin the process of securing Nash until the size mandate and other restrictions are lifted. Once that process begins it takes time to get approval. The earliest we would gain approval, or denial, is the first or second week of August. After reviewing the timeline and the potential that restrictions would require us to cancel anyway, we are canceling now so that teams can make other arrangements. We felt it would be inconsiderate to wait until the last minute with only a small chance that the meet would happen.

We apologize but felt like this was the best course of action.

A couple of points -

Moving to another date in the season is not possible. The park is booked for other events and there would be conflicts with other existing cross country meets in the state.

The county authorities have always been great to work with. They helped us through the decision making process but were supportive in whatever our decision was going to be.

Right now the smaller October 3rd Nash Farms XC Festival is on. Assuming there are no changes with governmental guidelines, we expect that one to go off as planned.

We hope things are back to normal in 2021.
