Ryann Krais puts in all-time performances after graduation - and even slips away for Senior Week... Jul 25, 2008

Ryann Krais will leave her Pennsylvania prep career with two outdoor state records, a remarkable 57.20 in the 400 hurdles that broke the previous mark by future teammate, and now world class hurdler Nicole Leach (West Catholic).... and her 41.20 300 hurdles set earlier this summer at the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico. But Krais also holds two of the top five all-time prep performances in the heptathlon - #2 of 5522, also set at Great Southwest, and #5 of 5457 set at this month's IAAF World Junior Championships in Poland. Those who know Ryann, know she is as gracious in victory as she is when the occasional disappointment strikes. And in true Krais form, she was gracious enough to take time after a whirlwind summer jetting and competing from Albuquerque, NM; to Columbus, OH; to Eugene, OR; to Bydgoszcz, Poland... to share her throughts on her final competitions. Well, it turns out many of the top athletes across the country want their shot to make Team USA and the Junior National meet is loaded with talent. See who's got a shot to make the team.

Butts to compete at USATF Jr Nats in long jump Jun 17, 2008

Photo by Tim Fulton of ArmoryTrack.com A sad state of affairs in Virginia high school track and field as it appears there will only be one high school athlete from the state competing at the USATF Junior Nationals in Columbus, Ohio with T.C. Williams junior and VA state indoor long jump record holder Tynita Butts competing in the long jump.. Does Virginia not have the athletes good enough to compete for spots on the US World Juniors team? We do. Tynita Butts will be ranked fifth in the long jump and Natalie Baird would be ranked third in the discus. Others would not necessarily have realistic shots of making the World Juniors team, but still could be competitive in the meet. Nike Outdoor Nationals is a great event for high school athletes and the events put on by the National Scholastic Sports Foundation in the past have helped fund the trips of many of our nation's best juniors to USATF Junior Nationals. However, NON is not an official national championship meet, while USATF Junior Nationals is and on the line is the chance for athletes to represent their country at the World Junior Championships in Poland later this summer. This year due to the New York state meet being pushed back a week later than usual, the two meets were forced to be held on the same weekend and forcing many athletes to make a decision on which meet they will compete in.
