Hey Coaches, Parents and Runners: The Leon County Commission will take up the discussion on whether to allow outside high school teams to compete at Leon County Park facilities. If they should continue down that path of not allowing teams to compete at their facilities that means the Prestate meet and the State meet are going to be adversely affected. I encourage you to contact Leon County via their public comments portal before tonight at 8 p.m. Let them know what an incredible venue they have and all of the economic impact the XC community brings in every year to their county. Considering all the work and investment made at Apalachee it would be a travesty not to have meets there this season. Thanks

Good evening. With all fairness to our runners, they have been training and preparing all summer. It's not fair to exclude runners because of the county the live in. They have been practicing social distancing since day one. It is discriminating to all athletes who have been following guidelines, training for these races, and dedicating their entire lives to this sport. I believe all runners from all counties should be able to participate.

@Bobcats2020 As it stands right now, not even Leon County XC Teams can hold a meet against each other at any of our wonderful city/county parks (not even a dual meet!). Plus, Leon public schools are not permitted to compete against teams outside of Leon County unless they travel out of town as a club team. It makes absolutely no sense what this county is trying to accomplish in the name of COVID-19 safety except force their xc teams to compete out of town with travel of at least 1-1/2 hours away.

@francee So FSU must already have permission to have the meet at ARP then. Hopefully it will happen as currently planned. The county commissioner meeting today must be going to discuss opening up the county parks for other local xc meets then. Hopefully they’ll vote to allow other meets to happen.

@Uncle_Elvis As it stands right now (as far as I know), all of public school Leon County Sports teams can only play other Leon County teams within the county lines. A lot of those athletes compete in travel club as well and they can compete outside Leon County. Sports can use their schools gyms, pools, and football fields and I am assuming have a xc meet on their school property if there is enough room for a meet. All of our large xc meets have always been at our city and county parks which is still shut down ... to be further discussed after FSU Pre-State meet. @eaglerunners Yesterdays county commissioner meeting voted to allow FSU Pre-State to happen, thankfully. As long as everyone who attends follows the mask wearing rules and social distance at the FSU Pre-State the county commissioners will consider opening up the Leon county parks for other xc meets after the FSU Pre-State meet (they said someone will be watching ... a Covid-19 Czar lol ) and the findings will be discussed at their October 13th meeting. By October 13th the regular xc season is practically over but most likely they will vote to have the FHSAA State meet at ARP. The rule for competing against other teams outside of Leon County for our public schools will have to be lifted in order for any of the Public Leon County Schools sports to compete in the FHSAA State Tournament ... maybe it will be lifted soon since the public schools need to decide by Sept. 18th about participating in the FHSAA Tournament. Public XC coaches are considering other privately owned land to host small meets. It is a shame and inconvenience that this extra stress and work needs to be put on our coaches during this time when our parks are already set up for meets.
