Ashland (OR) High School senior Evan Holland, MileSplit's No. 16 recruit in its ranking of the top prospects in the Class of 2020 and the No. 10 athlete on the current MileSplit50 cross country national rankings, has committed to the University of Oregon, per a report.
Holland, an All-American at Nike Cross Nationals in 2018, is currently Oregon's top distance runner and undefeated through four races, with the state's No. 1 5K time of 14:51.70. He's posted two efforts under 15 minutes and five across his cross country career.
Holland joins El Paso Hanks senior Michael Abeyta as the Ducks' current 2020 recruiting class. A year ago, Oregon landed Foot Locker Nationals winner Cole Hocker and Passaic 800m talent Luis Peralta.
Hoping to catapult into the ranks of national champions in 2019, Holland was 16th at NXN a year ago.
He owns PRs of 3:46.59 in the 1,500m, 4:10.11 in the 1-mile, 8:13.10 in the 3K, 8:51.93 in the 3,200m and 8:50.29 in the 2-mile. As a junior, Holland competed routinely at the national level, finishing eighth in a 3,200m field at Arcadia, was second in the 2-mile at Brooks PR and put down his 1,500m PR at the Portland Track Festival among professionals. His 3K PR finished the season at US No. 1 and gave him one of two state titles, and his fourth across his career.
He had four performances nationally in the top 10 and three among the top two in the country.
