Lancaster's (NY) Natalia Surdej talking about her performance at the Dartmouth Relays.

In this article, we break down some of the top underclassmen athletes in the throwing events. These are athletes who compete in the shot put and weight throw.

Check out the full top 20 rankings for freshmen and sophomores below as well as the three stand out athletes.

Top 20 Rankings By Event: Shot Put | Weight Throw

3 Standout Athletes:

Bryanna Wilson (NJ) - The Howell High School sophomore holds the US No. 1 underclassmen throw in the shot put with her mark of 42 feet 2 inches. She threw that mark to win the Merli Invitational on December 22.  She has thrown three other marks over 40-feet this year. Just this past weekend at the
Monmouth County Championships she threw 40'8" to take the win.

Natalia Surdej (NY) - The sophomore holds the nation-leading mark in the weight throw with her 55-foot throw from the Dartmouth Relays two weekends ago. At that same meet she threw 37-4.75 to place fourth in the shot put. However, that mark is not her best mark of the year in the shot put. She threw 37-7.5 during the first weekend of January to win the Section 6 Varsity Select #1 meet at SUNY Fredonia.

Leah Moore (CT) -  Moore, the Hillhouse High (CT) sophomore, doesn't have top marks in either the shot or weight throw like the other two ladies on this list but she does have consistency in both events. In the shot put so far this year she ranks fourth for underclassmen with a mark of 41-9, while in the weight throw she is ranked sixth among underclassmen with a mark of 44-1.
