Valor Christian's (CO) Cole Sprout takes the No. 1 spot on the list of top returners in the NXN Southwest Region. He's also run the fastest 5K time this year out of all the athletes in the region with his 14:32 from the Nike Desert Twilight Invitational. That meet is held on the same course as the NXN Southwest Region meet. His time stands as the course record.
Even though Sprout finished second last year and should be looking for the win this weekend in Casa Grande, there are some guys could have him in their sights. One such guy is Easton Allred. Allread finished third last year at the Southwest Region meet only a second behind Sprout running 14:53.00. The two have both been running well all year.
Two other guys who could be in the mix are Springville's (UT) Grant Gardner and Kirtland Central High School (NM) Kashon Harrison. Gardner finished 13th last year, but the senior has had a big season this year and should be looking to continue it on to Portland. Harrison chose to run Foot Locker last year but if he runs in the Southwest Regional he will be in contention to make a run at the national meet as well.
Take a look below at all of the top individuals in the Southwest Region.
