One of the nation's top girls is Victoria Starcher from Ripley in West Virginia. Starcher only holds the 34th fastest returning 5K among returners who also ran the 800m during the 2018 track season. She holds the fourth fastest 800m time from 2018 track season 2:07.42. This gives her the second-best average based on rank for 5K and 800m. She is only behind North Rockland, New York's Katelyn Tuohy who has the second-best returning 5k XC time and the tenth best 800m time.
Many of the girls at the top of this list average well at both the 5K and 800m distances. There's no doubt though that 800m speed can translate into a big kick when the time comes at the end of the race.
The girls on this list will have been in the top 5,000 5K runners in the country and have run the 800m during the 2018 outdoor track season. Check out the full list below to see how foot speed in the 800m translates to the cross country course.
