Invited out to Oregon for the Nike Elite Camp to train with some of best returning high school distance runners in the nation for 2012-2013, Chantilly rising senior Sean McGorty also got the opportunity to race in front of a huge crowd gathered for the U.S. Olympic Trials with a special high school mile race organized for the elite campers in the middle of the meet this past Friday.

McGorty, the recent Group AAA state outdoor champion at 3200 meters, ran a personal best time of 4:11.95 at the full mile distance to finish 8th in the race. The converted 1600 meter time is just off his personal best at that distance after running a time of 4:09.19 in a runner-up battle to Ahmed Bile at this spring's Northern Region Championships. A returning Foot Locker All-American, McGorty will likely be the top ranked runner in Virginia in the pre-season along with fellow 2011 Foot Locker finalist and sub 9 minute two miler Thomas Madden of Skyline.
