GHSA Girls State Championships, GA

Coverage

Highlights

  • Kendell Williams (Kell GA) set state records in the 100H and the Long Jump.  In the AAAA prelims of the 100H Kendall floated over the hurdles to a 13.39 clocking for a new US#1.  Kendell then won the finals in 13.49.  In the Long Jump Kendall leapt out to 20-08.50 for the win and a US#1 as well, and took the high jump with a leap of 5-8.
  • Felicia Brown (MLK) won 4 golds on the day, taking the 200m dash in 23.78 and the 400m dash in a fast 53.89 as well as anchoring both relay teams to victory.
  • Martin Luther King (GA) won the girls 4x100m relay with a state record time of 45.69 and also won the 4x400m relay with a quick 3:47.69.
  • Torie Owers (Athens Academy) won the shot put with a record throw of 46-08.50.

 

Florida 4A State Championships, FL

Coverage

Highlights

  • St. Thomas Aquinas boys won the 4x400m relay with Arman Hall anchoring it home with a time of 3:14.46.  Lake Brantley was 2nd in 3:15.87.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas also took the girls 4x400m in 3:47.67.
  • Colonial (FL) led a super-fast 4x800 final, winning with a time of 7:40.15 with Andres Arroyo splitting 1:50.90 anchor.  Lake Brantley anchor Otniel Teixeira attempted to run him down, but finished 2nd in 7:41.49 while Winter Park finished 3rd in 7:42.47. 
  • Ferguson won the girls 4x800m in 9:08.41, edging St. Thomas Aquinas, 9:08.46, but they were subsequently DQed for exchange zone interference.  Plant wound up 2nd in 9:10.16.
  • Marvin Bracy won the 100m dash in 10.52 into the wind, but tweaked his hamstring in the process.  He did not compete in the 200m dash later in the day.
  • Arman Hall won the 400m dash in a quick 47.08 and then took the 200m dash as well in 21.16.
  • Shayla Sanders (Boyd Anderson) snagged triple gold in her senior season, winning the 100m dash in a swift 11.63 and the 200m dash in 23.64.  She then anchored Boyd Anderson to the 4x100m title with a time of 45.71.

 

Palmer Relays, OH

Highlights

  • Alyssa McBride (Bryan) won the girls pole vault with a US#2 and OHSAA All-Division record of 13-00.50.

 

Somers Lions Club Invitational, NY

 

Coverage

Highlights

  • Mary Cain (Bronxville) won the 1500m run with a US#5 All-Time 4:17.1 clocking! Cain's time is also US#2 All-Time for 10th graders, behind only Jordan Hasay and falls just shy of the Olympic B standard of 4:17.0 in the event.
  • Arlington (NY) won the boys 4x1600m with a fast time of 17:26 with a fast 4:12.8 anchor leg. 
  • Rye (NY) won the sprint medley relay with a quick 3:29.5 time off of a 1:53 split by anchor Taylor Love.

 

St. Anthony's Invitational, NY

Highlights

  • North Shore (NY) impressed with two very solid relay wins.  In the 4x1600m relay the squad ran a US#4 time of 20:17.09.  North Shore then came back the next day and won the 4x800m relay with a US#2 clocking of 9:03.51.
  • Brianna Nerud (North Shore) also won the 2000m steeplechase with a US#3 AT clocking of 6:30.73 that trails only Maddie Meyers (WA) 6:29.20 and her own 6:29.56, both from 2011. 
  • Kelsey Margey rolled to a quick 2:09.89 win in the 800m run but Garden City frosh Emma Gallagher ran an impressive 2:11.01 for 2nd.
  • Alexis Panisse (Benjamin Cardoza) won the 3000m run with a time of 9:51.58.

 

Alabama 4A, 5A, 6A State Champs, AL

Highlights

  • Carmen Carlos (McGill-Toolen) snagged 3 state titles on the weekend.  She won the 6A 1600m run with a time of 4:58.19 and the 3200m with ease in 11:22.67 and then the 800m run with a time of 2:13.65.
  • Simone Charley (Spain Park) won the 6A triple jump with a leap of 40-02. 
  • Hoover took the 6A boys 4x400 with a meet record time of 3:15.65.
  • Pydrae Carroll (Fairhope) won the boys 6A triple jump with a leap of 49-06.50.

 

Middlesex County Relay Championships, NJ

Highlights

  • Sam Mattis (East Brunswick NJ) smashed the NJ State Record and threw US#5 All-Time in the discus with a mark of 218-4.

 

Holmdel Twilight Series #1, NJ

Highlights

  • Christian Brothers Academy (NJ) showed some incredible depth as they put 5 runners under 9:20 in the 3200m run! Tom Rooney won with a quick 9:11.53 over Jacob Riff (West Windsor Plainsboro South), who was 2nd in 9:11.87.
  • Also under 9:20 for CBA was Jack Boyle, 3rd in 9:12.92, Aaron Liberatore, 4th in 9:13.18, Mike McClemens, 7th in 9:15.95, and William Bragg, 9th in 9:18.76.  And the scary part is all 5 are underclassmen!
  • Clarissa Modde (Voorhees) won the girls 3200m run in 10:48.77.

 

Kentucky Dream Mile, KY

Coverage

Highlights

  • The boys Mile was won by Jacob Thomson (Holy Cross) with a time of 4:13.43.  Patrick Gregory (Butler) was 2nd in 4:14.73.
  • The girls Mile was won by Katherine Receveur (Assumption) with a time of 4:59.06.  Teammate Bailey Davis was 2nd in 5:00.47.

 

Dean Nice Invitational, OR

Highlights

  • National record-holder Haley Crouser (Gresham) won the javelin with a throw of 164-1 in pretty bad conditions.

 

Sioux Falls Relays

Highlights

  • Jake Leingang (Bismarck) outdueled Tony Smoragiewicz in the 1600m run with times of 4:10.70 to 4:12.80.
  • Tyler Schultz (Custer) improved his US#2 throw in the Shot Put with a toss of 67-3.

 

Jesuit Twilight, OR

Coverage

Highlights

  • Alexa Efraimson (Camas WA) was part of  a stellar field in the girls 1500m run, but showed she was the class of the field, winning with a US#2 clocking of 4:23.41.  Paige Rice was 2nd in 4:25.28 as 8 girls were under 4:30 in the race!
  • Conor McCandless (Gonzaga Prep WA) won the boys 1500m run with a quick 3:54.36.
  • Cody Danielson (Newberg) won the boys javelin with a toss of 207-10.

 

Baldwin Invitational, PA

Highlights

  • Angel Piccirillo (Homer Center PA) rolled in the distance events with a US#2 4:44.08 clocking in the Mile run and a US#9 2:09.82 in the 800m run. 
  • Larisa Debich (Hempfield PA) won the girls pole vault with a US#3 clearance of 13-00.25.
  • Billy Stanley (South Park PA) launched his best javelin of the season, achieving a US#2 mark of 234-9.

 

Florida 3A State Championships, FL

Coverage

Highlights

  • Kendall Williams (Stanton FL) won the boys 100m in 10.49 and the 200m in 21.05 but impressively clocked a US#2 20.89 in the 200m prelims.
  • Nick Uruburu (Bartram FL) won the 400m dash with a blazing US#5 time of 46.76.  He then anchored Bartram from 5th to the win in the 4x400 relay, overcoming a 25 meter deficit over the final 100m of the race.
  • Tristie Johnson (Ed White) blistered the track in the short sprints, taking the 100m gold in 11.86 and in the 200m dash with a time of 23.80. 
  • Jeremiah Green (Hillsborough FL) won the triple jump with an impressive 50-3 mark.
  • Lily Williams (Chiles FL) pulls of the amazing triple (800 in 2:12, 1600 in 4:53, 3200 in 10:30). Anne-Marie Blaney 10:32 for second in 3200. Olivia Ortiz (Lakewood Ranch) goes down in 3200 with 50 meters to go with broken femur, went into surgery on Saturday after winning 4x8 and second in 1600.

 

Harold Arft Sterling Invitational, MI

Highlights

  • Grosse Pointe South (MI) athletes dominated again with big distance wins.  Hannah Meier won the 800m run with a time of 2:08.41 and the 1600m run with a time of 4:49.40. 
  • Ersula Farrow was 2nd in the 800m run with a time of 2:14.02 and 2nd in the 1600m run with a time of 4:57.84. 
  • Haley Meier was 3rd in the 1600m (4:59.65) and Kelsie Schwartz was 4th in the 1600m (5:00.27). 
  • This foursome then teamed up to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:59.65.
