TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Kennesaw State cross country student-athlete Nabil Hamid finished 87th in a field of 252 at the NCAA National Cross Country Championship on Monday afternoon.

The junior posted a 10k time of 30:41.8 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.  The finish will conclude a stellar 2011 campaign for Hamid as he won the Georgia State Invitational in September, as well as recording a pair of runner-up finishes at the Auburn Invitational and the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. For his efforts, Hamid was honored at each event including earning All A-Sun First Team Honors

“I ran a solid race in terrible weather conditions that were cold and rainy,” Hamid said. “This was a transition race to the next level for me. I learned a lot and will use this positive experience and train to the best of my ability for next year.”

Arizona freshman Lawi Lalang ran undefeated all season as he went on to take the individual title in a time of 28:44.10, a time that was matched by none of his challengers. The pre-race favorite separated himself at the 5k mark and never looked back as he cruised across the finish line 13 seconds before the next competitor.

The University of Wisconsin captured their fifth National Title as they claimed the 2011 team title over two-time defending champions Oklahoma State with 97 points, followed by the Cowboys with 139 and Stanford, at 144 points.

If you missed the race, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. ET on CBS HD.
