Oakmont Invitational, CA

Highlights

  • Saint Francis (CA) opened their season in impressive fashion with a dominating win over 4k with just 25 points and a 44s spread.  Jessica Diaz led the charge with a third place finish in 15:20.  Marisa Carino (Oakmont) dominated the individual race with a 14:41 clocking.  
  • Jordan Rushing (Del Campo) won the varsity boys race with a time of 12:08 as his team took an impressive victory with 28 points and a 1:10 spread.  

 

American Fork Grass Relays, UT

Highlights

  • The American Fork boys wasted no time getting their season off to a stellar start, posting a winning time of 52:48, which is the #2 All-TIme mark behind their own 2010 record of 52.14.  Davis UT was 2nd in 53:53 which is #8 All-Time and 40 seconds faster than their time from last year.  Mountain View UT was 3rd in 54:31 which was 13th All-Time.  Clayton Young anchored for the Cavemen with a 10:01 clocking for the fastest on the day and the 4th fastest individual mark all-time.  Haven Shelton (Pleasant Grove) recorded the 2nd fastest time of 10:13 while American Fork's Mack Morrison recorded a 3rd place 10:20 clocking.

 

Skyview Invitational, AK

Highlights

  • Allie Ostrander (Kenai) ran a historical time for Alaska with her 17:53 clocking to set the course record by 50 seconds to break the 18:43 mark of Jenette Northey.  Northey (Service) was the runner-up with a time of 18:46.  The time certainly puts her on the national map for her 2011 campaign.  We will provide more information on her as we get it, as a preview of the Kenai team at the beginning of the season provided no mention of her.  West Anchorage took down Kenai in the team battle 78 to 87.
  • In the boys race Cole Christiansen (Kodiak) won with a 16:07 clocking that is the fastest in the state this year.  Service won the boys team battle over Kodiak 72 to 103.

 

Mercy Invitational, GA

Highlights

  • First Presbyterian star junior Grace Tinkey won her 2nd race of the young 2011 season, this time dipping under 18 minutes as she won by 1:44 with a time of 17:55.95.  Perhaps more impressively, the time was 35 seconds faster than Grace's winning time from the 2010 season, showing that she is a serious post-season contender this season.

 

WNC Invitational, NC

Highlights

  • Thomas Graham (Cary Academy) started his seaosn off with a bang, winning the championship boys race with a course record clocking of 15:12.07.  The effort easily outdistanced runner-up Sam Roberson (Broughton) who finished with a time of 15:47.70.  Broughton took the team title with 80 points.  
  • Darby Middlebrook (Watauga) won a two horse race in the girls championship with a clocking of 18:25.34.  Brooke Gordon (TC Roberson) finished 2nd with a time of 18:38.85.  Broughton completed the sweep by winning the girls team race convincingly with 50 points. 

 

Normal West Invitational, IL

Highlights

  • Michael Clevenger (Decatur McArthur) won the boys 3 mile race with a solid 14:58 clocking, impressive for early season.  Minooka won the boys race with a mere 26 points with 5 runners in the top-10.
  • In the girls race Minooka was also victorious with 39 points.  Emily Brelsfoard (Normal West) defended the home turf, winning with a time of 18:25.

 

Franklin Invitational, IN

Highlights

  • US#3 Columbus North boys opend their season with a strong showing, winning the 5000 meter race with 38 points and a 16:12.77 1-5 average.  Luke Brahm (Ben Davis) took top individual honors with a time of 15:27.82.  Andrew Diehn (Columbus North) was 2nd with a time of 15:33.75.    
  • Chanli Mundy (Terre Haute) won the girls race with a clocking of 18:43.45 over Rachael Sollman (Columbus North) who ran 18:55.33.  

 

Austin ISD Invitational, TX

Highlights

  • Silvester Harrison (Killeen Ellison) smoked the competition with a 15:27.90 clocking over 5000 meters to win with the only sub-16 time.  Austin Westlake won the team title with 49 points.  
  • Audrey Wassef (Houston Clear Lake) won the girls 2 mile race in 12:04.90.  Houston Clear Lake dominated the team race with 24 points.  

 

Hebron Friday Night Hawk Invite, TX

Highlights

  • Lewisville Hebron dominated both the girls and boys results.  Robert Domanic won with a swift 9:27 2 mile clocking over teammated Kevyn Hoyos, 9:39, and James Bodner, 10:00 as the team won the title with 41 points.  
  • In the girls race Rachel Jones won the individual crown with a time of 11:51 as the team won with just 26 points.  

 

Great Meadow Invitational, VA

Coverage

Highlights

  • Seumas O'Reilly (Warren County) won the boys Varsity A race with a swift 15:43 clocking to dominate the racing.  Mike Crozier (Gonzaga College) was 2nd in 16:08 in a kickers race with Patrick Joseph (Loudoun County) who was third in the same time.  Oakton just as easily dominated the team race with 42 points.  
  • Crystal Nelson (Millbrook) won the girls Varsity A race with a time of 19:11.  Oakton won the team race in a tight match over Battlefield 87 to 91.  

 

Jimmy Driscoll XC Invite, ID

Highlights

  • Emily Nist (Bishop Kelley) easily won her first race of the 2011 season with a 19:00.49 clocking over teammate Briana Tiffany, 2nd in 19:40.49.  Centennial narrowly defeated Bishop Kelley 36 to 37 points.  
  • In the boys race Conor Smith (Eagle) won with a time of 16:47.41 to lead a team sweep with 15 points.  

 

Mariner City Invitational, MI

Highlights

  • Hannah Meier (Grosse Pointe South) opened her 2011 season with a convincing win in 18:42 with only two teammates close to her.  Grosse Pointe South won the girls race with 38 points.  

 

Tiger Run, KY

Coverage

Highlights

  • Jacob Thomson (Louisville Holy Cross, won the boys race going away with a swift time of 15:32.04.  Splits were 4:56 at the mile and 9:58 at 2 miles.  The St. Xavier boys won going away with 56 points.  
  • Frosh Maddox Patterson (Sayre) won the girls race with a time of 18:44.45.  DuPont Manuel dominated the girls team race with 77 points on the strength of a 2-3 showing by Kristen and Cassidy Hale.  

 

Ted Benz XC Jamboree, FL

Coverage

Highlights

  • Andres Arroyo (Colonial) won the Men's 5000 race with a time of 16:06.60, outdistancing several unattached runners for the win. Colonial looked strong, winning with just 20 points while Winter Park was 2nd with 57 points.  

 

Saturday Night Lights VI, OH

Highlights

  • Jordan Redd (Fairborn) started off his 2011 season with a big win, outpacing the competition to a 16:09.72 victory by 27 seconds.  Centerville won the boys team race with a mere 25 points.
  • Soph Sydney Leiher (Beavercreek) won the girls race with a solid 18:56.77 clocking.  Centerville completed the team sweep with a win over Beavercreek 46 to 60.
