Richard McKay Places 17th at USA Track & Field Championships

 

EUGENE, Ore. - ULM junior Richard McKay placed 17th in the javelin against some of the best athletes in the country Friday evening at the USA Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.

 

McKay had a best throw of 68.87 meters (225-11) and finished as the ninth best collegian in the field. His best throw came on his second attempt after throwing 63.42 meters on his first try. McKay threw 66.25 meters on his third and final attempt.

 

Mike Hazle of Nike won the event with a best throw of 78.22 meters (256-7). Timothy Glover of Illinois State finished as the top collegiate thrower with a best mark of 74.93 meters (245-10).

 

McKay also finished 13th in the javelin earlier this month at the NCAA Championships to earn second-team All-America honors.
