LET'S JUMP IN

The professional scene had a loaded week. The Diamond League landed in Rabat, Morocco on Sunday - the circuit's only stop in Africa. Yared Nuguse won the men's 1500m in a meet record 3:30.35. Soufiane El Bakkali won the steeplechase in a world-leading 7:57.25, thrilling the home crowd. Audrey Werro of Switzerland won the women's 800m in 1:56.56 - a new meet record and the fastest outdoor 800m in the world this year. Jacory Patterson ran a meet-record 44.11. Kenny Bednarek won the men's 200m in a meet-record 19.69. Tobi Amusan won the women's 100m hurdles in 12.28 - the same woman whose world record of 12.12 Masai Russell missed by 0.02 in Xiamen the previous week. Max Burgin beat Emmanuel Wanyonyi in the men's 800m, winning in 1:42.98 to Wanyonyi's 1:43.56. That result matters - Cooper Lutkenhaus races Wanyonyi in Stockholm on June 7.

The NCAA first round also ran this week, in Lexington and Fayetteville. The headline from Fayetteville: Arkansas senior Sanu Jallow-Lockhart ran 1:57.74 in the women's 800m - No. 2 all-time in NCAA history, missing Athing Mu's collegiate record of 1:57.73 set in 2021 by 0.01 seconds. A personal best by 1.08 seconds. The NCAA Championships run June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

High school track and field had its own week, too. The inaugural Under Armour Track and Field Nationals ran at IMG Academy in Bradenton. The CIF State Championships in California produced two of the most historic throws in American prep history. Camryn Dailey broke another record. And more State championships wrapped up across the country.
