RUNNINGLANE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville hosted the RunningLane Track Championships on Friday and Saturday. The meet drew elite distance athletes from across the country and the results were worth the trip.

Abdinasir Hassan won the boys 3200m in 8:43.03, a new meet record. The Colorado sophomore who joined the sub-14 club in the 5000m at Bryan Clay last month keeps finding new gears. Brian Burns of Bentonville ran the race of his high school career in the mile - 4:00.02. The Arkansas 6A double state champion in the 800m and 1600m missed breaking the historic barrier in the event, but the number will follow him into whatever comes next. Gus Simmons won the boys 800m in 1:50.97.

Kaitlyn Estep of Cardinal Gibbons had the night of the meet. The North Carolina sophomore broke the state record in the 800m with a 2:04.96 - over a second faster than the previous mark - and set a new RunningLane meet record at the same time. Then she came back and won the girls mile in 4:39.61. Emma Hoffman of Michigan won the girls 3200m in 9:58.59, moving to US#9 all-time in the event. Peyton Kielman of Caledonia ran a 2:18 in the 800m for a six-second personal best. Avinash Dewagan of Texas won heat three of the 3200m in 9:04 - one of the fastest 9th graders in Texas history
