Cowboys Repeat As NCAA Champions

The Oklahoma State men's cross country team has captured its second-consecutive NCAA title at the 2010 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Cowboys, who earned a score of 73, placed 120 points ahead of second-place finisher Florida State. Oklahoma (fifth) and Colorado (15th) finished in the top 20 teams, while Texas placed 26th overall.

Junior Girma Mecheso was the first Cowboy to cross the finish line in a time of 29:48 for fifth place overall. Teammates German Fernandez and Colby Lowe were close behind for sixth and seventh place finishes. Three other OSU runners earned All-America status, including Tom Farrell, Johnathan Stublaski and Andrew Wacker. Oklahoma's Kevin Schwab and Colorado's Joseph Bosshard also captured All-America honors.

On the women's side, Texas Tech finished third overall with a score of 165. Two other Big 12 women's squads placed in the top 10 with Colorado (sixth) and Iowa State (eighth). Oklahoma State (17th), Texas (20th) and Kansas State (25th) rounded out the top-25 team finishers for the Big 12.

Texas Tech's Rose Tanui was the top Big 12 women's runner, as she posted a time of 20:18 for fourth place. Seven other individuals earned All-America honors, including Aliphine Tuliamuck (ISU), Winrose Karunde (TTU), Laura Tremblay (CU), Mia Behm (UT), Purity Biwott (TTU), Shalaya Kipp (CU) and Natalja Piliusina (OSU).

Oklahoma State's NCAA title is the 200th team national title by a Big 12 institution and the 39th since 1996.
