THE PEPSI FLORIDA RELAYS

The Pepsi Florida Relays at Mike Long Track in Gainesville is one of the oldest meets on the calendar - high school, collegiate, and professional all sharing the same track across two days. This year it was worth every bit of attention it got.

Quincy Wilson made his first outdoor appearance of the season and did exactly what you would expect from someone easing into a long campaign - won the 400m in 45.97 with Kedric Wright Jr. second in 46.78. Comfortable, controlled, and already faster than most people in the country.

Spanish River senior Preston Sangely came in as Florida's cross country state champion. He left as something else entirely. Sangely won the high school 800m in 1:49.64, a US#1, negative splitting with a 55.02 first lap and a 54.62 second. His personal best heading in was 1:51.72. Then the next day he came back and anchored Spanish River's 4x800m relay in 1:49.76, leading the Sharks to a US#1 team time of 7:39.70.

Nia Armstrong rounded, also from Spanish River, put out a strong high school showing in the hurdles, running 13.33 (+1.8) in the 100m hurdles to win and tie the national lead she had set herself at the FSU Relays the week before.
