TWO 14-YEAR-OLDS MAKE A STATEMENT

The Olympic Development 200m at the Pepsi Florida Relays is open to professionals, collegians, and - occasionally - 14-year-olds who have no business being in that field and then nearly win it anyway.

REPLAY: PEPSI FLORIDA RELAYS

Camryn Dailey of North Carolina is not a new name. She has been breaking age group world records since she was 12, set three age-13 world records last year including a 51.67 in the 400m - a time that would have ranked second in the country among high schoolers the week it was ran - and came into the Florida Relays already holding the U14 world record in the 200m at 22.92. She lowered it to 22.73, finishing second overall behind Shaunae Miller-Uibo - the two-time Olympic 400m gold medalist who ran 22.44.

Right behind her in third was Melanie Doggett, also 14, in 22.80. Doggett announced herself at Nike Indoor Nationals this past March, finishing third in the 200m in 23.11 against the best high school sprinters in the country. That was six weeks ago. Now she is third behind an Olympic gold medalist and a world record holder in a professional field at the Florida Relays. The class of 2030 is not waiting its turn.
