MARIAH MAXWELL VS. THE WORLD. AGAIN.
It was not enough to crash the Clyde Hart Classic last week and beat professionals. Mariah Maxwell showed up to the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin - a four-day collegiate and pro meet - and ran 22.25 (+3.8) in the 200m invitational. Wind-aided, but HS No. 3 all-conditions all-time.
The only high school girls ahead of her on that list are Allyson Felix (22.11) and Dana Wilson's 22.21. She is a high school senior from Texas racing in meets headlined by the likes of Gabby Thomas, who was making her season debut. That is the league she belongs in.
The context keeps stacking up. Mariah set the national record in the 300m at the VA Showcase in January with a 36.24. She won the Nike Indoor Nationals 200m in 22.84. Last week at the Clyde Hart Classic she ran 22.93 (+3.4) and went 11.11 (+1.5) for second in the 100m - Texas #2 all-time and US high school #8 all-time, beaten only by adidas Pro Cambrea Sturgis. Now 22.25. She and her sister Mia have opted out of the Texas high school season entirely. This is why.
