What happened was Nike Indoor Nationals and New Balance Indoor Nationals running simultaneously - two cities, two tracks, Boston and New York City going off at the same time - and both of them absolutely losing their minds. National records fell in the 400m, the 2-mile, the triple jump, the boys 4x800, the boys DMR, the girls DMR, the boys sprint medley relay, the girls sprint medley relay, and the distance medley relay. Multiple. At both meets. At the same time. Marcelo Mantecon won four events in four days and broke a class record set by Edward Cheserek. Katy Zang broke Mary Cain's 13-year-old national record solo. Quincy Wilson won his fourth straight national title by nine thousandths of a second. A kid in 8th grade chopped five seconds off his two-mile PR.
This was not a normal weekend of high school track, this was something else entirely.
