Mississippi's Discus Standard Moves Again
Sean Fairley has been building toward this for years. The West Harrison senior threw 196-1 at the Biloxi High Invitational, breaking the Mississippi state record by two inches and moving to U.S. No. 1 early in the outdoor season.
The progression is steady when you line it up. As an eighth grader in 2022, he went undefeated and threw 145-2. As a freshman, he reached 176-0. As a sophomore, he pushed beyond 185 feet at Junior Olympics. By his junior season, he was consistently in the high 180s and collecting state titles. The previous state record sat at 195 feet. Now it belongs to him.
The next benchmark is obvious. Two hundred feet is within range this spring. Based on the trend line, that conversation is no longer hypothetical.
