The Maxwell Sisters Move Into Historic Territory

The 60-meter final at the USATF National Indoor Championships featured professionals. It also featured two high school athletes who left with times that will stay in the record books. Mia Maxwell ran 7.13 for second place. Mariah Maxwell followed in 7.14 for third. Jacious Sears, the University of Tennessee alum, won in 7.04.

Mia's 7.13 ties the high school national record. Mariah's 7.14 ranks third all-time among prep athletes.

The improvement arc makes it more striking. Mia opened her season at 7.41 at the Texas High School Indoor Championships. Mariah debuted at 7.33. Both have taken off significant time in less than two months, and they did it on a stage that demands clean execution. There was no high school-only heat. No separate division. They lined up with pros and closed the gap, cementing themselves in history and running way below the World Indoor Championships standard in the process.
