Virginia 8th Grade star middle distance runner Gunner Hammett took down a field of collegiate athletes over 800m at Christoper Newport University's Vince Brown Invitational over the weekend. Hammett would come through 400m in third place with a split of 58.01 before moving to the lead over the final 200m closing in 59.86 for his final 400m and 29.47 over the final 200m.
Hammett held a personal best of 1:58.91 from his 7th grader outdoor track season where he placed 3rd in the Junior 800m at the Brooks PR Invitational.
Hammett opened his season with a 2:00 800m in December before running a 1:23.98 to win the Middle School 600m at the VA Showcase.
