February's debut weekend of competition provided ample opportunities for underclassmen to get another race in before the stakes get increasingly higher. All four athletes held their own against experienced veterans, with some even snagging the win.

Regardless, this quartet is a group you should familiarize yourself with, because they aren't going anywhere.

Check out the next four 'Future Stars' of the indoor season.

SARAH MARSHALL

Winner's Circle (Ga.)

Class of 2028

At The Legends of Alachua County meet in Gainesville, the freshman sensation added another event to her repertoire, the 400m. Marshall didn't hold back in her season debut in the event, notching a PB of 54.32, the top time in the nation throughout the freshman class, and the No. 6 time in the U.S. outright. It only took one attempt to break the Georgia freshman class record, moving ahead of Trinity Price's 55.0 from 2018. In addition to the 400m, Marshall is also the top freshman this winter in the 60m (7.51) and the 200m (23.98), with both being the ninth fastest times in freshman history.

KALEB YOUNG

Episcopal Academy (Pa.)

Class of 2028

After opening up his season in 2:04 just before Christmas, Young has since lowered his season best by over eight seconds after clocking 1:56.08 at the TFCAofGP Meet #9 in Philadelphia. Young finished fourth overall and was the second-fastest underclassman of the day, finishing two seconds back of the winner. In a state that has produced many elite milers and half-milers over the year, Young is now the fastest Pennsylvania freshman in indoor history. Young also moved up to No. 7 on the all-time freshman list, one of just 13 to ever break 1:57.

COLBY FLYNN

Bishop Hendricken (R.I.)

Class of 2027

The lone sophomore on this week's list threw down one of the best 1000m performances we've seen this year, running 2:31.21 in a runner-up finish at the RIIL Class Championships. In Rhode Island history, only one sophomore has ever run faster than Flynn, with the pair separated by just over one-third of a second. Although he didn't get the win in the 1000m, Flynn won the 1500m in 4:11.34, nine seconds slower than his season best of 4:02.81. Flynn's range is incredibly impressive for only being a sophomore, also having run 8:28.91 for 3000m.

ADRIANA PETTINELLI

Scarsdale (N.Y.)

Class of 2028

The dream freshman campaign continued for the New Yorker, as she moved up to No. 2 in the state's freshman record book, trailing only Mary Cain (Bronxville). At the Purple Champions Invitational at The Armory, Pettinelli clocked 2:10.47 in her first indoor race at the distance since last March. She took down a field of 28, holding off a trio of seniors who finished 2-3-4.  The freshman has had her way in a multitude of events this season, setting PBs in the 1000m (2:50.7), mile (4:52.1) and the 3000m (10:08.62). Pettinelli will have a shot at a fast race this weekend at the Millrose Games, securing her spot in her win at the Millrose Games Trials last month.
