For the fifth time, thousands of runners will make the trip to Huntsville, Alabama in hopes of ending their year on a high note on one of the fastest and most well-kept courses in the country.

Just like they have the last five years, the RunningLane XC Championships will be contested at John Hunt Park on December 7, with 10 total races on the docket.

In its brief history, the championship meet has already helped make history, with both the boys and girls national record being set in 2020 and 2021. Newbury Park's (Calif.) Colin Sahlman led 72 boys under 15:00 en route to his blistering 14:03.29, and Science Hill's (Tenn.) Jenna Hutchins became this first girl to run sub-16 in 2020, breaking the tape in 25:58.42.

Yes, the course has seen historically fast times, but it's also seen hundreds of gutsy performances despite tough conditions. Whether it was the pouring rain or the mud, the course gradually slowed down a year ago, but it didn't alter the atmosphere. It provided the opportunity for runners to experience a true cross country race at a championship-level meet.

There's no telling what the 2024 edition has in store, but signs are pointing to another great weekend in PR'Ville.

Do you have what it takes to chase a fast time against some of the nation's best distance runners? You better make up your mind, because we're just over three weeks away from race day.
