Addison Moore, Will Conway Have Career Days At Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational
- - -
There's no time like the present, and for Woodford County's Addison Moore and Floyd Central's Will Conway, there was no time like Saturday as the pair unloaded for new career bests at 5K to win the girls and boys races at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational in times of 17:20.80 and 14:41.25, respectively.
Moore, the high school sophomore from Kentucky, picked an opportune time to pounce, as the championship girls field featured four girls under 18 minutes and three top-level teams in Hilliard Davidson (OH), duPont Manual (KY) and Mountain Brook (AL).
Moore led them all, and in doing so made a big statement. Her performance was 58 seconds faster than her sixth-place bid last year.
Conway, meanwhile, dropped under 15 minutes for the first time in his career and out-kicked Tippecanoe's Landon Kimmel, who was second in 14:42.65. Dobyns Bennett's Luke Mussard was third in 14:47.73 while Riku Sugie (14:51) and Ryle's Tiger Bartlett (14:56) both broke 15 minutes.
Winfield's Brayden Marshall, nationally-ranked to begin the year, slipped to 15th with a time of 15:22.
The performance was a bellwether moment for Conway, who has said previously that he can compete for a state title in Indiana. Currently, he's the fastest man in the state and No. 3 in the U.S.
Oldham County's Tula Fawbush was second in 17:27.20, while Waynesville's Samantha Erbach was third in 17:43.20 and Floyd Central's Kaitlyn Stewart was fourth in 17:51.30.
Hilliard Davidson, traveling in from Ohio, claimed the team titel with 64 points on an 18:38 average, while duPont Manual was second (114) and Mountain Brook third (211).
Louisville Trinity won the boys race by just five points over Floyd Central (146-151).
