Tatum David Continues To Shine In Illinois

Olney Richland County senior Tatum David has proven unbeatable this season in Illinois -- literally.

At the IHSA 2A Girls Track & Field Championships this weekend, David put on a distance clinic by pulling off the double win in the 1,600m and 3,200m, and did so in a historic way.

David's top performance came in the 3,200m as she clocked 9:53.96 for a new state meet record and a win by over 20 seconds. That mark also sits just five seconds behind her all-time Illinois state record of 9:48.94 set earlier this outdoor season at the Herrin Girls Invite.

In the 1,600m, David would cruise to a 4:49.37 winning effort and won the event by nearly an 11-second margin.

The two-event win made for the second-straight year that David has won the distance double at the 2A state meet as she won the same events in 2022 in 4:47.52 and 10:04.02.

Elsewhere on the track and in the field at the Illinois girls championships, more national talents put together state-winning showings. Emmi Scales of Arlington Heights also pulled off a double win, taking home both the 100mH and 300mH gold medals in 13.51 (+2.5) and 42.61. In the field, the Huntley duo of Alex Johnson and Dominique Johnson dominated the horizontal jumps, with Dominique and Alex going 1-2 in the triple jump and Alex winning the long jump with a 19-6.75 mark.

Dominque's triple jump leap of 40-6.25 ranks among the top 30 marks seen in the country this season.
