AUSTIN, Tx. -- It was all Ernest Campbell in the boys sprints on Friday at Mike Myers Stadium.

Campbell, the Refugio (TX) junior, tore up the 2A boys sprint fields in both the 100m and 200m, including a phenomenal 10.22 (+2.0) conference record at the UIL Outdoor Championships.

Getting the crowd on its feet with an astonishing 10.22 100m performance -- a time rarely seen among the smaller Texas classifications -- Campbell broke a long-standing 2A all-time mark of 10.34 en route to a state title.

That record had stood for over 40 years, set back in 1985 by Stanley Kerr. It also moves Campbell into a tie for No. 6 all-time in the state of Texas in the 100m across all conferences.

Then just an hour after that historic effort, Campbell doubled back to win the 200m in stunning fashion yet again, cruising to another best of 20.92 (+1.8).

The 200m effort performance surpassed his previous PR of 21.53 by over half a second.

It's been quite an impressive few weeks for Campbell, who burst onto the scene in the 2A regional qualifying rounds. A 10.26 100m title-winning sprint at the Region IV Championships moved the Refugio star into the top 15 rankings for Texas.

But Campbell isn't just a talent for Refugio on the track. He's also a 3-star football recruit at wide receiver and has received interest from Power 5 schools including Nebraska, Baylor, Boston College, Colorado and Georgia Tech.

For now, though, Campbell can leave the UIL Outdoor Championships with two individual titles, along with one of the best Texas small school classification marks ever recorded.
