MileSplit BC is Here: Meet the New Provincial Editor!

On your marks...set...go!

It's time to bring some exciting track and field coverage to BC!

My name is Katherine Lucas and I am thrilled to be MileSplit State Editor for British Columbia, bringing you all the latest in high school track and field across beautiful BC. With British Columbia being the first Canadian MileSplit network site, I am eager to get started. But for now, a bit about me and my love for athletics...

Track and field has been a constant in my life, well, forever. I started running, jumping, and not really throwing since I was around eight years old and that slowly turned into finding a love for the sprint events.

I graduated high school in 2016, where in my senior year I was the runner up in both the 100m and 200m at the BC High School Track and Field Championships. From there I went on to compete collegiately for both Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia - creating memories that will last a lifetime spanning from my first year to my last.

During my time at SFU I qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships as a freshman. While at UBC in my final year as a collegiate at the NAIA Track and Field Championships I became the 100m Bronze Medalist and ran to a third place and second place finish in both 4x100m and 4x400m relays with my wonderful teammates, all resulting in graduating as a 5-time All American and being part of the NAIA Women's National Championship winning team twice. Outside of collegiate running I have represented Team BC four times, including this past summer at the Canada Summer Games where I placed second in the 100m.

These moments are ones I will cherish always. Through injuries, the highs, the lows, I have always stuck with the sport that I was introduced to at such a young age. I was able to grow not only as an athlete but as a person and now I can't wait to continue to be involved in a community that gave me so much.

There is so much amazing talent in BC and it is time for that to be showcased! I look forward to seeing you all around the track and on the field and feel free to reach out to me with any questions at milesplitbc@gmail.com!
