It's been confirmed that two of the nation's young up-and-coming track and field stars will showcase their star power in Bermuda this summer.

Sophia Rodriguez, the Dallastown Area (PA) 8th-grade talent and U14 indoor 2-mile world record-holder, and sister Victoria Rodriguez, one of Pennsylvania's top sophomore distance athletes, will toe the line at the Bermuda National Sports Centre this June for the inaugural Bermuda Track & Field Challenge.

The Rodriguez sisters are both entered in the girls 1,500m and 3,000m competitions set for the two-day event held from June 23-24.

Sophia burst onto the national scene within the last few months as she took social media by storm with her elite-caliber merits. The middle schooler logged unofficial Pennsylvania state records in the indoor 1,600m (4:56.94) and mile (4:53.76), as well as set a U14 world all-time best for the indoor 2-mile at Nike Indoor Nationals where she placed second in the high school division in 10:20.68.

More recently, Sophia won the 5,000m at adidas Track Nationals in 16:39.08, just off the 16:24 U14 world record.

Victoria has also shown proven success as a Dallastown (PA) sophomore, clocking PRs of 5:09.87 for the mile and 10:38.60 in the 3,000m on the indoor oval in 2023.

So far, they are the top headliners for the first installment of the Bermuda Track & Field Challenge in Devonshire. Last fall, athletes and coaches traveled to the island for the first-ever Bermuda XC Challenge as athletes contested in cross country races across a variety of divisions.

There's still plenty of time to enter the Bermuda Track & Field challenge as registration remains open until May 1. For more information and event details, visit the MileSplit meet page. You can also find more updates on the event on the event's Instagram and Twitter channels.
