We're almost to the finish line in high school cross country.
This past week featured more national regionals and the California CIF State Cross Country Championships in Fresno, California.
As usual, the festivities were electric. Benzie Central's (MI) Hunter Jones (above), the newly-minted No. 1 runner in the U.S. based on our most recent MileSplit50 rankings, won the Champs Midwest Regional and qualified for his second national championship.
Meanwhile, over in California it was Jones' main challengers, Newbury Park's Lex and Leo Young, who went 1-2 in the CIF Division 2 state final. The Youngs remain as national title contenders, too, and they are perhaps a 1B and 1C option -- if you had to choose -- at Team Nationals.
