The Scoop: Performances Are Still Heating Up Late In Season

NY Federations Didn't Disappoint

The annual New York Federation Championships was held at Bowdoin Park and became the home of the state's best performers and teams over the weekend.

Karrie Baloga, the Cornwall senior and University of Colorado commit, continued her undefeated season as she was the first girl to cross the finish line in 17:48. Her performance earned her a 154 speed rating, and she was the only one to dip under 18-minutes for 5K. 

Allegany Limestone senior and NC State signee Angelina Napoleon was able to come across the finish line in second with an 18:09. The next five girls to finish the 5K race all came from Saratoga Springs. 

Emily Bush, who finished as the third-fastest girl with an 18:21, led the Blue Streaks to a nearly perfect score with 20 points. The Saratoga Springs girls put together an impressive performance as the top scorers Bush, Sheridan Wheeler, McKinley Wheeler, Anya Belisle, and Alycia Hart finished with a 29-second spread and an 18:36 average. 

Bethlehem Central was second with 117 points and Northport finished third with 179 points respectively.

In the boys race, there were two boys who broke through the 16-minute 5K barrier.

Monroe-Woodbury's Collin Gilstrap ran his third-fastest performance of his senior year as he clocked a 15:51 to take the victory. His 5K performance earned a 191 speed rating. 

Gilstrap finished seven seconds ahead of the NYSPHSAA Class D state champion Adam Furman of Tri-Valley. Furman was able to finish the course in 15:58. Just a few moments later, Susan. E. Wagner's Joseph Perazzo was third in 16:06. 

It took 109 points to win the team title. Monroe-Woodbury finished with a 16:45 average as the runners finished 1-6-24-33-45. Saint Anthony's was second with 120 points while Northport finished third overall with 205 points.
