The Podium: State Champ Performances Steal The Show

- - -

State championship season has seen many cross country athletes hit new milestones and achieve new feats that rank among the best in personal and school history.

The Podium for this week features a handful of those runners, including ones that helped lead their schools to state titles in team races and others who recorded some of the best state meet performances of their high school careers.

Continue below to see the four athletes on The Podium for Nov. 1.

The Podium (Nov. 1):

Ava Stafford, Cody (WY): Helped the Cody High School team to its fourth-straight Wyoming 3A state cross country title by finishing 10th overall in 20:55.28 for 5k on Oct. 22. With that performance, Stafford finishes her high school career with four team titles, one individual title and four All-Conference honors in cross country.

Owen Wolfe, Dowling Catholic (IA): Ran a 5k personal best of 16:24.34 at the Iowa 4A state cross country meet, scoring as Dowling Cathlolic's fifth runner and helping the team to a team state title on Oct. 29. The sophomore placed 25th overall and has shaved nearly three minutes off his 5k time since the beginning of his freshman campaign in 2021.

Haley Schoenegge, Kentucky Country Day (KY): Won her first Kentucky 1A state cross country individual title with a personal best 5k time of 19:00.30 on Oct. 29. That performance ranks her third in Kentucky Country Day School history for the 5k distance.

Grady Lenn, De Pere (WI): Placed seventh at his first-ever Wisconsin Division I state cross country championships as just a freshman, recording a time of 15:47.80 for 5k on Oct. 29. Lenn was the only freshman among the top 15 finishers in the Division I field.
