One of the biggest girls team matchups occurred at the 70th Annual Baldwinsville Invitational between two New York teams. Fayetteville-Manlius, No. 7 on the MileSplit50 preason rankings, faced Cicero-North Syracuse at the Baldwinsville course.

F-M brought a loaded squad with Izzie Sullivan, No. 21 on the individual MileSplit50 girls rankings, and honorable mention Hannah Kaercher

This wouldn't be an easy sweep for this top-ranked team as CNS developed into a powerhouse over the last couple of weeks, especially after its first victory of the season at the VVS Invitational. CNS senior and NC State commit Kate Putman showcased her strength this season, which contributed to the team's success throughout the season.

At the end of the day, it was Sullivan who was the first girl to cross the finish line after breaking away at two-miles with a 148 speed rating and a 5K time of 17:30.20 ahead of Putman's 17:41.40. Sullivan's teammate came in third in 18:12.40.

As the race unfolded, Putman's younger sister Gabby Putman crossed the finish line as the fourth-fastest girl and the second-fastest sophomore behind Sullivan. The team also added Hannah Boyle to the lineup after not running at the VVS Invitational. She did diligence as the third-fastest runner for CNS this week.

This is where the race got interesting for the girls team title.

CNS was able to secure the victory with 2-4-8-9-18 place finishes for an 18:49 average. CNS won the team title by six points over FM who finished 1-3-10-16-17 with an 18:54 average.

In the boys race, it was Nolan McGinn of FM's race to lose. The junior, who was one of three boys to break 16-minutes on this course, ran 3.10 miles in 15:22.40 and earned a 190 speed rating. Solomon Holden-Betts of Baldwinsville had the home crowd advantage and finished second in 15:35.60 and Fairport's Jake Passalugo finished third to help secure the team title.
