No. 10: Flower Mound

Analysis: While the team's superstar (Natalie Cook) from last year is gone to graduation after a historic year when she became the first athlete in high school cross country history to win both the team and individual national championships, it might seem rather incredulous that this team still exhibits outstanding potential. 

But it's true. Flower Mound head coach Andrew Cook, who led the Jaguars to a Texas state Class 6A team title in 2021, worked in budding superstars Nicole and Samantha Humphries to various degrees over the calendar year, slowly progressing the pair through cross country before they made leaps over the indoor and outdoor seasons: Nicole and Samantha, along with Alexandra Fox, were all part of a national record 4xmile team over the indoor season. Then Nicole and Samantha both went 4:53 in the 1,600m over the outdoor campaign. 

Fox gives Flower Mound a true powerhouse three: The sophomore broke 18 minutes for 5K last season at nationals and was in the top 20 at the state championships. Flower Mound is among the fastest teams in the country returning in 2022 with an approximate team average of 18:17 based on last season's PRs. 

Biggest Question: Will all that talent make Flower Mound one of the best teams in the country, or are they a year away from being national championship contenders? 

This is a honest and fair question, considering the youth movement working through the system. While the team clearly has potential, sometimes results need to come before any program is anointed next up.
