No. 21: Wayzata (MN)
- - -
Analysis: Like Minnetonka, Wayzata will also have one of its stars back: Abbey Nechanicky. The senior ran just one meet after September last year, but she returned over the outdoor season to put down times of 4:54 and 10:09 in the 1,600m and 3,200m, respectively. That's some serious speed.
On top of Nechanicky's return, Wayzata has all seven runners from last year back. All five have PRs under 19 minutes for 5K, including Grace Weber and Teegan Anderson, who both ran under 18:30. With a split under 45 seconds, Wayzata will have pack running and a star who can compete for wins up top. That's a pretty solid strategy.
Biggest Question: Owning the designation of "Top Dog" in big races.
While Edina and Minnetonka will be shooting for Wayzata, on paper, the Trojans are the team to beat. Sometimes, though, that distinction can hold pressure of its own. So can Wayzata harness that label and use it to their advantage?
