You don't see this every day.

Two hurdles into her 100mH preliminary on Saturday at the Bergen County Championships, Abigail Dennis went down.

Most athletes would call it a day after a disastrous fall.

Not Dennis.

The sophomore absolutely exploded from the floor from that moment forward.

And facing roughly a six to eight meter deficit, she made it all back over the next eight hurdles, piercing through lane four as she found a way to win the second heat of the prelims in a time of 16.85. She advanced to the final with the second-fastest time.

That was a harbinger of good news for Dennis, who would eventually win the county championship later in a career best time of 14.28 seconds.

Looking back over the race replay, we came up with an unofficial split after the fall: 11.78 seconds from hurdle eight until the finish.

Old Tappan may be on to something here with Dennis.

The sophomore moved to the high hurdles this season after featuring exclusively on the 100m, 200m and 400m over the 2021 season.

That sprint base is making a difference. Dennis also won the 100m (12.48) and 200m on Saturday (25.43), giving her three country 'ships.
