Sometimes, the NPOTW takes on a life of its own.

And this last voting period was no exception, as the NPOTW Week 5 race was decided by just over 400 votes.

In the end, it was Austin Vandegrift (TX) junior Kevin Sanchez who took top honors, securing over 46-percent of the vote and earning 2,680 tallies.

Sanchez was nominated by virtue of his U.S. No. 1 3,200m performance of 8:59.99 at the North Texas Winter 3,200m this past weekend, his first under 9 minutes.

Just a shade below in the voting was Northbridge's (MA) Marcus Reilly, who ran a sophomore national record of 2:24.18 in the 1K. Reilly accumulated over 2,200 tallies during the period.

A big congrats goes out to Sanchez, Reilly and all the other nominees for Week 5.

We will recognize a winner every week in this poll, with nominations handed out on Monday. The poll will end on Friday and winners will be announced the following Monday.

Winners and gear from the previous National Performer of the Week presented by New Balance series -- dating back to July 12 -- are still being processed. We have kept track of your information and will email you once the New Balance order goes out. Stay tuned!
