Shawnti Jackson Debuts With Fast 60m & 400m Performances

Virginia Beach, Virginia--- It was an exceptional day at the 757 Showdown on Saturday for the young talent Shawnti Jackson

Jackson was coming off strong performances already this season. At the JDL Holiday HS Invitational, she ran 38.06 in the 300m and 1:13.04 in the 500m to be ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the country, respectively. 

The junior from North Carolina continued to showcase her talent in Saturday as she debuted in her first 60m race of the season. She crossed the finish line in the final with a 7.34 to be ranked U.S. No. 2 in the event behind Kaniya Johnson's 7.29 from the Galleria Games in December. 

A couple of hours later, the sprinter lined up in the girls 400m.

Similar to the 60m final, Jackson exploded out of the starting blocks and took control coming off the second turn.

She finished down the home stretch to clock a new personal best of 54.94 in the two-lap indoor event. She shattered her previous best of 55.61 from last season by over half a second.

Jackson finished the meet ranked US No. 2 behind Christine Mallard, who clocked a 54.69 in early December.
