The 10 Best Girls Performances Of The Year

10. Avery Lewis Jumps No. 6 All-Time At adidas Indoor Nationals

Avery Lewis caught everyone's attention after claimed a mark of 20 feet, 8 inches on her final long jump attempt at the VA Showcase in January. The rising star broke the freshman national class record and Dawn Burrell's 1991 indoor Pennsylvania state record of 20-2.50.

To put that more into perspective, Burrell won a gold medal in the long jump at the 2001 World Indoor Championships. She later became an Olympian at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, where she finished 10th.

The story seemed to repeat itself at adidas Indoor Nationals, yet again inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Lewis clinched the title heading into her sixth jump and was the only girl in the championship field to leap over 20 feet.

She relaxed a bit more and looked to her father, as well as her coach Bershawn Jackson, in the stands for her final jump of the meet. Lewis then put it all together to make history.

It took Lewis a new personal best of 21-2.50 to break her own freshman national class record and the Pennsylvania state record ... and become a national champion.

This is only the beginning of Lewis' high school career at Friend's Central (PA).
