The 10 Best Individual Boys Performances Of The Year

10. Ethan Strand Picks Up Four Wins At The Alabama State Championships

You don't get much better than four.

And Vestavia Hills '21 graduate Ethan Strand captured three individual titles and another relay win during a milestone weekend at the Alabama Class 7A Track and Field Championships in May, setting state records in the first three events while also leading Vestavia Hills to a AHSAA Class 7A team title.

Few athletes in the country were as individually dominant as Strand over the course of 2021. But specifically, few were as good as him at their state championships.

His final performance in a Vestavia Hills jersey will go down in the Alabama record books. He secured winning times of 4:11.77 in the 1,600m on Thursday, 9:12.88 in the 3,200m on Friday and 1:52.73 on Saturday, closing out his career with wins over three straight days.

But that was only the final note on an otherwise superb year from the North Carolina recruit. Strand also secured a national indoor title in the mile with a time of 4:10.31 in February at adidas Indoor Nationals.

He finished his career with 15 state titles and 42 wins across his high school career. More than that, he was 21-7 across cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field in 2020-2021.
