Undefeated Perez Ready For A Race

Another one of the favorites on the girls side is New Jersey's Angelina Perez. She'll be ready to get after it on Saturday.

Perez has been dominant this season in the Garden State, running the fastest time ever by a New Jersey girl at Holmdel Park with a 17:07 at the NJSIAA Group Championships. She followed that up a week later with a 17:09 to win the NJSIAA Meet of Champions title. She hasn't lost a cross country race in 2021.

The senior Perez then bested a very deep field at Northeast, winning by 21 seconds at Van Cortlandt Park. It's been a lot of blowouts for the University of Florida signee. Surely, she is chomping at the bit for a competitive race, and so she should get just that on Saturday.

RunningLane champion Natalie Cook (TX) is seen as the favorite by many, but Perez has made a very good case that she can hoist the trophy when all is said and done.

With a win, Perez would be just the second New Jersey girl to win the national meet, joining Janet Smith, who won the Kinney National title in 1983.
