Down The Stretch, Things Are Heating Up In Utah

Just over two weeks remain until Utah's state championship meet on October 27 at Valley Regional Park in Salt Lake City.

And so these next few weeks mark a very important turning point for teams in the state.

This week, area championships took shape, with Region 1, Region 4 and Region 8 Championship races all taking place. Teams qualifying will move on to Division races this week.

In Region 1, the Farmington boys, ranked No. 4 in the MileSplit50 boys team rankings, secured the bag over Davis and Weber.

Over in Region 4, American Fork, the No. 12 ranked team in the nation, defeated Corner Canyon and Skyridge.

And then in Region 8, Mountain View's boys, ranked No. 23 in the MileSplit50, posted a strong performance overall.

What was most impressive, though, was Farmington's continued depth, with all five of its scoring runners over 170 speed ratings. Few teams outside of Newbury Park, Niwot or Portland Central Catholic can even compare in 2021.

In fact, Farmington's team went like this in the scoring: 1-2-3-4-6. A nearly perfect score.

American Fork, meanwhile, nearly had everyone over 170, too, with its fourth runner, Jared Thomas, and fifth, Joshua Hernandez, scoring at 168 and 167, respectively.

But much like Farmington, it's top half was superb. Jayden Fitzgarrald won the overall meet with a time of 15:09.6, while senior Nate Jaster was third in 15:22.9.
