* Gary Martin reflects on his performance at the Lehigh University Paul Short Run

This weekend at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University, Gary Martin set a new course record of 14:49 which resulted in a new personal best to win the boys white 5K race.
His performance became the third-fastest time in Pennsylvania history.
Martin finished the race with a strong solo effort. Brian DiCola of Hatboro Horsham (PA) finished second with a 15:26.80 and Luke Seymour of Schuylkill Valley (PA) finished third with a 15:38.10.
Looking into the record books, there are only two other athletes from Pennsylvania who have run faster than Martin. Paul Springer and Noah Affolder both ran a 14:47 back in 2007 and 2017, respectively. These athletes both tied the state record.
The previous meet record was set by Colin Abert of Easton Area (PA) in 2015 when he clocked a 14:55. Martin is one of three boys to run sub 15 minutes on this course in history.
Martin earned a 193 speed rating for his efforts and is now US No. 7.
In the boys brown 5K race, Aidan Hodge of Hempfield (PA) took the victory in 15:16.80. Caleb Kenyon of North Pocono (PA) edged out Ryan Pajak of Ringgold (PA) by six-tenths of a second. Keynon clocked a 15:23.00 while Pajak finished third in 15:23.60.
In the girls brown race, Olivia Hass ran the fastest time from the brown 5K with a 17:34.80. It was a close battle coming home as Claire Zubey of Owen J. Roberts crossed the line in 17:57.40 to edge out Mechanicsburg's Olivia Walter, who finished the race in 18:03.30.
Shana Kearney of Bensalem (PA) won the white 5K race in 18:00.90. Lillian DiCola of Hatboro Horsham (PA) and Elizabeth Pickett of Bel Air (MD) finished second and third with a 18:07.60 and a 18:12.70, respectively.
