Wingfoot XC Classic

- - -

When: September 24-25

Where: Sam Smith Park -- Cartersville, Georgia

This year's annual installment is sure to be thrilling, as always.

Sam Smith Park typically invites a blazing finish, the kind that showcase late theatrics. In 2018, for example, a hard-charging Kyle Harkabus was overtaken in the final 200 meters and then answered the move with a sprint of his own, claiming the title.

On the boys side on Saturday, seven of Georgia's top 10 runners are entered, including the very talented Edward Blaha of Pace Academy. While Blaha isn't 100-percent just yet, he has the ability to win.

The fastest current boy in Georgia, however, is Holy Innocents Episcopal School's Joe Sapone, who ran 15:26 at the Chickasaw Invitational just a few weeks ago in Alabama.

The girls race will feature several talented Georgia teams, but the one to watch is from Louisville, Kentucky. A week after finishing third at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational, the Crimson are capable of putting together a fine finish, led by the merits of junior Jessica Secor, who finished fifth in that same race.

Marist School's (GA) Ruby Little is heading into Wingfoot right after her runner-up finish at the adidas XC Challenge, where she produced a time of 17:49.
